#help Channel Policy
Last revised 2 May 2008
This policy supplements the CryptIRC network policy available at http://policy.cryptirc.net/network/. Your use of CryptIRC and its channels constitutes your agreement to all applicable policies. Should you not wish to be bound by such policies, your sole remedy shall be to immediately discontinue use of CryptIRC.
TOPICALITY
- #help is the official CryptIRC help center, and is where users are encouraged to visit if they need the assistance of a CryptIRC staff member (IRCop).
- Users are to ask questions in-channel, and should not directly message IRCops with their queries.
- Questions should be on-topic and pertain to issues with the CryptIRC network, CryptIRC services, issues with individual channels or users, and so on. Please do not ask silly questions which do not pertain to CryptIRC; the staff will be less inclned to help you.
- Users are encouraged to seek assistance from channel staff, if appropriate, before seeking assistance from network staff.
- Users are discouraged from chatting in #help unless that chat is related to a question asked by a user.
SERVICES PASSWORDS
- Network staff will not help users recover passwords for nickserv, due to the difficulty of validating the identity of the user making the request.
- Network staff will assist in the recovery of passwords for chanserv only if:
- The request is made by the channel founder
- The channel founder is identified to nickserv
KICKS
- Channel operators may kick users for any reason.
TEMPORARY BANS
- Users are to turn off auto-rejoin. Failure to do so will result in a five-minute tempban. If the user has not turned off auto-rejoin once the tempban is lifted, the user will be banned from the channel for twenty-four hours.
- The following will result in a warning kick followed by a fifteen-day tempban should the user fail to rectify the problem:
- Posting more than five consecutive lines of text in less than thirty seconds
- Automatic announcement scripts
- Rapid nick or handle changes
- Excessively disruptive behavior
- Linking to any material which could reasonably considered "not safe for work" and failing to warn users beforehand
PERMANENT BANS
- Any user who evades a tempban shall have the ban extended to ninety days from the original date of the ban. Should the user evade the ban again during this period, the user will be banned from the channel permanently.
- The following will result in a permanent ban from the channel without warning:
- Posting or linking to confidential or personal information ("dropping docs")
- Linking to any site which forcibly takes over a user's web browser
ABUSE
- If users believe a channel operator is abusing his/her power or is not following this channel policy, users are encouraged to contact the channel founder or an IRCop and lodge a formal complaint.
